MINUTES OF August 26, 2010. MEETING #428 WAS CALLED TO ORDER BY THE PRESIDENT, JIM SMEDLEY, AT NOON

The format we usually follow for our meetings was changed to discuss the recent passing of some of our club members and their loved ones. Jim mentioned a few: Mike & Peggy Horwath’s granddaughter, Bernie Vetter’s father, Betty & Joe Bonner’s son, Harry Johnson, Bernie Vetter, Angelo Onorato, George Phillips, Quenton Coleman & Vernon Watson. It has been a sad time for all of us.
Regarding Bernie Vetter, we all know she was our Treasurer and that she did a wonderful job. She will be greatly missed. Clara Hunt was a tremendous help obtaining the treasury paperwork and books from Bernie’s home and, as always, Clara was a big help making the transition to a new treasurer go smoothly. We recruited Tom Sommerville for Treasurer. Tom graciously accepted. Jim also informed us that he and Tom and Clara went to the bank & closed the current club’s debit card. Jim & Tom opened a new debit card in their names. The old debit card had not been used for awhile. We also checked on the CD. The CD was in three names, two of which are now deceased. We will have to get together with Jack Jenkins and have the 1988 CD changed. Tom has gone over the books and they look in good order. We have a couple of small outstanding bills that will be paid shortly. We will have a couple of the Trustees audit the books… that’s one of the jobs of the Trustees. We will try to have everything in order before our next meeting.
Jim reminded everyone that when we have a passing or resignation of an officer the By-Laws state he has the authority to appoint a replacement.
Jim has said this before but he wants to say it again; this club has no trouble having people raise their hands and volunteering to do things and rally around the club. This includes going to funeral homes and expressing condolences on behalf of our club. Jim thanked everyone for supporting our club. Everyone has done a wonderful job.
Jim has made the following appointments:
Tom Sommerville will be the Treasurer, Leo Heid will move to the Board of Directors replacing George Phillips, Rick Marine will take Leo’s position as Trustee.

Tom will reconcile July and August together and give a report in September.

BOWLING: BOOTS ONORATO
Bowling will start on the 1st Tuesday after Labor Day, Parkville Lanes at 1o’clock. We need bowlers.

We have BJ’s applications up front. Anyone interested can fill one out and return to Clara.
She will have the Christmas Party tickets next month. Clara still has Entertainment Books. They cost $25.00.
The crab feast will be at our October meeting. Cost is still undetermined.
SUNSHINE COMMITTEE: MARGE STOCK
We have two deceased members, George Phillips and Bernie Vetter. Lodge notices were posted in the Sun paper. Donation made for George Phillips went to Grace Point Baptist Church. The donation made for Bernie Vetter went to Mid Atlantic German Shepard Rescue.
John J. Bonner, Jr., son of Betty and Joe Bonner passed on August 23rd. John graciously helped the club by having our minutes printed by Madison Bank of Maryland every month. We expressed our thanks by posting a lodge notice in the Sunpaper.
Jim read a thank you card from the Onorato family thanking everyone for their cards and special gifts to Stella Maris and the Mass cards for Angelo.
Jim also wanted everyone to know Betty & Joe Bonner’s son was 52 years old and died suddenly. The viewing is being held today at Schimunek Funeral Home, 9705 Belair Rd. from 3to5 and 7to9 PM. A Mass will be on Friday at 10AM at the Church of the Annunciation.
Prayers are requested for Gert O’Keefe who has home hospice care.

Darlene Dail spoke to members about organizing a Christmastime bus tour to Washington D.C. through Sandy’s Tours to see the Hillwood Mansion and Woodrow Wilson Mansion. The tour also includes lunch at the Hillwood Mansion, which is beautifully furnished and decorated for the holidays. The trip is being planned for Thursday, December 9th. Bus leaves Deerco Park at 8:00AM and possibly Turner’s at 8:30. Cost is $99.00. It would be nice to get a group together for a bus trip!! On the reverse side of the colored sheet you will see an ad for ”Putting on the Ritz” at Cockeysville Senior Center on Saturday September llth. It is a Dinner Dance with a great menu. Cost is $20.00.
If you remember a few years ago we supported the Alzheimer’s association walk and “Forget-Me-Not” fund raiser. Well, we are going to do that again this year. I’ll have the” Forget-me-Nots “and sponsor sheets next month. The walk is October 30th at Towson University.

GOOD OF THE CLUB:
A warm welcome was given to new member Ray Musick. Jim wanted to remind us of the new website www.healthcare.gov. to help people understand the Healthcare Plan. Jim has copies of the published Healthcare Reform Timeline sheet. Most of the information in the report came from Keiser. The report gives you a step-by-step guideline for everything including Medicare, Medicaid, insurance reforms, prescription drugs, etc. thru 2012. The copies are available up front to anyone interested in reading the report. A special thanks to Clara Hunt for handling getting the food for today’s meeting.
