A web chat was held on May 15th about GM's Strategic Direction for the future, Jim was unable to join in on the web chat.
GOOD OF THE CLUB:
Jim welcomed new & infrequent members.
GM Retirees.com sent a message out promoting our Club. They did a very good job. Copies of the message are available on the front table.
There is a video going around about GM's venture in China. We were asked by GM to convey the truth about GM's relationship with China. Copies of the message are available on the front table. Some of the points are:1) GM's policy is to build where we sell. 2) We do not import vehicles from China. 3) GM did not use government bailout money to build in China.
Baltimore Operations (Allison Transmission) will provide us with a tour if we have enough members interested. A vote was taken and we should be able to get approximately 20 members to participate. Leo will get us more information.
For the last year , some of our Club's officers have been considering moving our Club's monthly meeting location. We have looked at a few places and ended up with recommending Rosedale Gardens on Philadelphia Rd. Tom, Clara and Jim met with Rosedale Gardens in April to iron out the details. They presented their findings to the Board of Directors last month and they unanimously voted to move our meetings, effective with the next meeting, June 28th to Rosedale Gardens. Here are some of the details, pros and cons:
General info: The average cost to meet at Turner's Hall for 50 members is $400. a month. The food cost is usually a wash and the 50/50 covers the bartender tip. At Rosedale Gardens the cost for 50 members will be $500. which will include a hot meal. No bar tip. The 50/50 will bring in about $50. ea. month. We will charge members $5. to get in, bringing in $250. making the hall rental $200. a month.
Pros: Hot meal, quieter room, no noise from ventilation system or microphone. Savings of $200. a month. We don 't have to bring or order food. We don't buy paper products etc. Savings should keep the club's financial situation stable for awhile. Dues should stay at $15.per person.
Cons: Cost will be $5. instead of $4. Everyone has to pay. We will be charged by head count. We draw the beer & soda.
Unchanged: Still bring cakes for desert. Chips, pretzels, beer & soda still available. Can play cards & bingo. (official room time 11:00-3:00 unless they have something planned after our meeting, we can stay longer.) Plenty of parking. We still clean up after ourselves. Membership took a vote and it was approved to move monthly meetings to Rosedale Gardens.
For the June 28th meeting the doors at Rosedale Gardens will open at 11:00-Food will be served at Noon and the meeting will start at 12:30. Jim will be at Turners hall till noon giving directions to anyone that goes there by mistake.
Jim will start the next meeting, then swearing in Tim Stansbury and Jim Hines to their new offices. Remaining officers do not need to be sworn in.
MEETING DATES: June 28,2012, to be held at Rosedale Gardens, 8037 Philadelphia Rd.
QUOTE OF THE MOTH:
The aim of an argument or discussion should not be victory. It should be progress.
