General Motors announced today that it sold 194,699 vehicles in the U.S. in January, up 16% compared with a year ago. Retail sales were up 24%. Fleet sales were down 2%.
The big news is: The government in January began selling its remaining shares of General Motors stock at a predetermined pace as previously announced, according to a Treasury Department report. The Treasury Department sold $156.4 million in GM stock in January, when shares traded about $28 to $30. General Motors added another outsider to its global marketing team, hiring Tim Mahoney from Volkswagen of America to be Chevrolet's global marketing chief. General Motors is considering building a $258 million data center in Milford Township as part of its information technology overhaul, according to documents submitted to the municipality. GM requested a tax abatement to construct a $100,000square-foot data center at its sprawling Milford Proving ground campus, where engineers conduct secretive work on future GM products.
Rick Marine has resigned as a Trustee. Donald Funke volunteered to replace him.
