GM SALARIED RETIREES CLUB OF MARYLAND

ROSEDALE GARDENS, 8037 PHILADELPHIA ROAD, BALTIMORE, MD

THE NEXT MEETING WILL BE July 23, 2015, LUNCH AT NOON, MEETING TO FOLLOW

Before the meeting started, Skip Shiflett read a message from our Club President, Tim Stansbury

“I hope you are all doing well, at least better than I am.  As I told Skip a couple of weeks ago, I went to John Hopkins for a second opinion about my cancer. The purpose was to verify that the medication that I was on was doing what is suppose to do. Well, as it turned out, it wasn’t. The cancer is a little worse than the previous CAT scan and the doctors at Hopkins confirmed that. As a result they put me on a medication they know that works with the kind of cancer I have. It has side effects and if I can tolerate them I’ll be on it for a while. The doctors say that eventually however the cancer will become immune to the drug and we’ll have to move on to another. That’s just the way it is.

“While all of this is going on, I am having significant pain in my left upper thigh. Have seen a hip specialist and he says it is not the hip but a nerve in my lower back that will require surgery to correct.  My pain management doctor says that it is a vascular necrosis of both femoral heads. The surgery should happen in the next month or so.

“Lastly, because of the failure of my left eye cataract surgery (the new lens slipped to the bottom of the eye) and no improvement after the second surgery. I’m having a third surgery tomorrow.

“With all of that said, I think it is unfair for the club to have an absentee president. I don’t have any idea when I’ll be in any condition to return.  Therefore I believe it is in the best interest of the club for me to resign so that you can elect someone new to lead the club.

“I hope you understand. I believe it is the best interest for me to concentrate on my health and for the retiree club to move forward.

“Thanks for thoughts and prayers. I’ll be back if and when I can.”
